Braconid wasps
are very similar in appearance to ichneumon wasps but are distinguished
from the latter through their wing venation. Braconid wasps are
small to medium sized species ranging in size from 1-80 millimetres
in length. As larvae they are all either internal or external parasites
of other insects, predominantly the larvae of Lepidoptera, Coleoptera,
Orthoptera, Hemiptera and other Hymenoptera. Some species also parasitise
the eggs and adults of insects. Due to their parasitic nature some
braconid wasps are considered beneficial biological control agents
of insect pests.
